New South Wales Premier’s Award for Non Fiction 2010

Well, I told you it was good, didn’t I?

I’m pleased to see that Anna Goldsworthy’s memoir Piano Lessons has been shortlisted for the Douglas Stewart Prize for Non-Fiction aka New South Wales Premier’s Award for Non Fiction 2010.   A wonderful gift for any music lover and inspirational for any young person of ambition.

There’s some stiff competition for the award, I’m glad I’m not one of the judges who has to choose:

  • Dr Michael Cathcart – The Water Dreamers: The Remarkable History of our Dry Continent
  • Graham Freudenberg – Churchill and Australia (on The Spouse’s TBR, which saved me buying it).
  • Dr Anna Goldsworthy – Piano Lessons , see my review.
  • Richard Guilliatt and Peter Hohnen – The Wolf
  • Paul McGeough – Kill Khalid (I did start this, and read about a third of it, but  like most things to do with the Middle East, found it too depressing to go on with.)
  • Noel Pearson – Up from the Mission: Selected Writings
