Imagine unwittingly giving away this treasure!! Apparently there are several copies offered overseas and prices range between $1562 and $4800 so the reserve has been set at $1800.

I don’t think any of my first editions are in this league, but I have told the offspring *not* to dump them in the op shop when I finally go off to the Big Library in the Sky.

I don’t want to bid for it. I want to be the one to find something like this!! I guess you have to spend hours going through a lot of dreck to find a treasure though don’t you. Perhaps I’ll spend the time reading instead.

Oh, but I love stories like this, someone finding a priceless art work in granny’s garage etc. Michael Frayn wrote a terrific novel along these lines, it was called Headlong, and it was about an art academic who is convinced he his neighbours in an English village have a Dutch master and he tries to buy it from them without them finding out what he’s up to. It’s hilarious.

Oh yes, I love these stories too – which is why I want to be the one to find not bid! I really enjoyed the Frayn I read and have often meant to read more. I’ll add Headlong to the virtual tbr!
