ABR Elizabeth Jolley Short Story Prize

I don’t usually advertise writing competitions here because the blog would very soon be swamped by them, but this one is a bit different because it’s in honour of one of Australia’s best-loved authors, Elizabeth Jolley (1923-2007).

The Australian Book Review Elizabeth Jolley Short Story Prize has a prize pool of $8000, with a First Prize of $5000  and $1000 for short-listed stories. Entries should be single-authored stories of between 2000 and 5000 words written by Australian citizens or permanent residents. Closing date is June 11.

Results will be announced in October and the winning story will be published in the October 2011 (Fiction) issue.

This is an invaluable opportunity for new and established writers.
