News of the 2013 ALS Gold medal winner comes thanks to Sue at Whispering Gums….
*drumroll*
… and the award went to Michelle de Kretser for Questions of Travel, which also took out the Miles Franklin Award. I can’t speak highly enough of this novel, please read my review and make sure you get hold of a copy before too long.
The shortlist was impressive too:
Darkness on the Edge of Town by Jessie Cole, see my review
Montebello by Robert Drewe, see my review
Lost Voices by, Christopher Koch, see my review and
The Fine Colour of Rust by P.A. O’Reilly, see my review.
Really, if you were looking for something to read, you couldn’t do better than these five books, one after the other. I enjoyed them all.
Hello Ms. Hill. Its Sonia from the United States. Glad to here the news. I look forward to reading Michelle de Kretser’s novel soon. I’m still busy reading Dylan Coleman’s novel, Mazin Grace. How was the Indigenous Writers Week?

Hello Sonia, good to hear from you:)
ILW was terrific, if you click the logo down at the bottom of the RH menu, and then scroll down to the Reviews post, you can see that we had a wide variety of books by indigenous authors, including for the first time some children’s books. I’m still accepting reviews to the end of July so let me know how you got on with Mazin Grace, I have fond memories of that book:)
