No, I’m not surprised. Jones is a Big Deal in the Sydney writing scene, and it would be like leaving a new novel by Tim Winton off the list. Besides, as I’ve said elsewhere, it’s a hyper-literary style of writing that some people really like.
I think I’m going to have to get round to reading it to see what I think instead of just hovering around it!

Again, thanks for the links. My, I’m surprised at how many I’ve read of the Kibble. Unheard of for me. I hope they’re the ones that make the shortlist!! Haha.
I’ve been hearing interesting things about the Barrett in the Dobbie list, and about the Treloar. And I do want to read Gail Jones – notwithstanding your and Karen’s comments – and Modjeska’s memoir.

I’m pleased to see the indigenous list, there’s a few there I hadn’t heard of that I can add to my Indigenous Lit Week reading list.

You mean in the NSW Premier’s List? Yes. I haven’t heard of the Harkin, but have been wanting to read Ally Cobby Ackerman’s and of course Dark emu which you’ve reviewed. I tried to get my reading group to do that one – maybe the second half of the year. I’m working towards getting us to do one indigenous book a year. I’ve dropped the idea but it hasn’t been leapt on yet!

So pleased to see Barrett on the list – I really loved Rush Oh! – one of the most original books I’ve read in years.
