I am just off to Bendigo for the writing festival, so I won’t be visiting my favourite indie bookshops today, but this is National Bookshop Day so I hope that wherever you are, whatever you do, visit a bricks-and-mortar bookshop and buy a book today!
Persons following self-imposed book buying bans because of their bulging TBRs can either consider this a Dispensation for the Day, or buy a book for someone else.
(But lest you think I should practise what I preach – I went to Benns Bookstore in Bentleigh last week and bought a stack of new books – and yes, of course, I will buy books at the festival from the festival bookshop.)
Must go, the traffic will be building and we have a long drive ahead of us!

Didn’t realise you’re a Benn’s Bookshop Bentleigh patron too. That shop was my go to Bookshop forever growing up over there…now I support Readings in Carlton…went yesterday & bought Black Rock White City.

I bought a book for my husband (about walking the Larapinta Trail) so my own TBR stack isn’t showing even more strain than it already is!

It was a guide book by John Chapman. My husband really wanted to do it about 20 years ago but there were really no guides available and no support. Now he’s not as fit (!) but there’s lots of support (from basic food drops to glamping). He’s thinking 2018.

Tell him to look into Tony Messenger’s Larapinta Walk. It’s a fundraiser for indigenous women, and I know for a fact that walkers who find the going a bit too tough can hitch a ride with the support crews.

I didn’t know about this day, but by coincidence I bought 6 books in a gorgeous little shop on the Kent coast, so now feel that I’ve done my part! Hope the writing festival is a good one and don’t forget to share your book purchases with us
