I am pushed for time this morning, so this is just a quick alert to the 2015 Miles Franklin shortlist.
The 2015 Miles Franklin shortlist
- Golden Boys by Sonya Hartnett
- The Eye of the Sheep by Sofie Laguna (started this, but abandoned it).
- The Golden Age by Joan London, see my review and a Sensational Snippet
- After Darkness by Christine Piper, see my review
- Tree Palace by Craig Sherborne (on my wishlist. See Angela Meyer’s thoughts at Literary Minded here)
I have read all and were great reads. It maybe time for a man to win. Tree Palace by Craig Sherbourne. I only read it because it was on the longlist and I was very glad I read the book. I wouldn’t like to be one of the judges.

Oh, Meg, I don’t go along with ‘winners by gender’. For me, it’s about the book, not the gender of the author.

I totally agree with you, and I was trying to be facetious. I read in one of the weekend papers a critic saying maybe it was time for a man to win. I think all of the books on the shortlist would be a deserving winner. Though my preference is for The Golden Age.

*blush*, sorry, I missed the joke, too much other stuff on my mind at the moment, I should have realised.
Anyway, I am tempted by The Golden Age too, though I liked After Darkness very much. But I hesitate because I haven’t read Tree Palace, I will have to see if I can get a copy.

I have read the Laguna (which is my favourite of the 3 I have read), the Hartnett and the Piper and they were all excellent. We are spoilt for choice once again this year.

A great shortlist this year. I’ve read both Hartnett and Piper’s and they deserve their place. Heard great things about Sherborne and London too, so a good list. I’ve read Simpson’s Nest and Parrett’s When the Night Comes and thought that while good, they were just a little shy of the others. Whoever wins will deserve it. John

I think that was Elizabeth Harrower’s last chance to win a Miles Franklin (unless she’s beavering away on something now)…
